Ms. Whittington - Academic Counselor
My name is Maria A. Whittington and I am the new Academic School Counselor for the Academy of Medical Arts. I am excited to offer our AMA students and families a comprehensive counseling program that provides for the social, emotional, college and career readiness needs of our students.
A little background about me, I was born in San Pablo City, a small village in the Philippines. My grandparents are of Spanish and Filipino descent. I attended UC Santa Barbara, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. After UCSB, I attended Cal State Northridge to receive my Single Subject Teaching Credential in English. As a classroom teacher, I found a passion for helping students both academically, socially and emotionally. In order to do just that, I attended Loyola Marymount University for my Personal Pupil Services Credential.
I believe that some of the things students desire above all is to be successful, motivated, and feel confident with their own abilities. With this view in the back of my mind, I am a firm believer that school counselors play a crucial role in helping students actualize their own potential. I am excited to help our AMA students do just that – reach a level of success that they can be proud of.
I am available for walk-in meetings, however would prefer scheduled appointments. If you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your child’s needs, I can be reached at (310) 847-1462 or by email: email@example.com
