Ms.C. Coleman - A-G Diploma Program Counselor
As a counselor for LAUSD, I currently specialize in dropout prevention, behavior modification, and academic enhancement. I have been specializing in the area of dropout prevention for over a decade; I started 2006 as a Diploma Project Advisor. Prior to that, I worked in the district as a classroom teacher. Before I began working for LAUSD, I worked in Corporate America in the Insurance Industry. When I first began my career at LAUSD as a classroom teacher, I quickly learned that students were in desperate need of social emotional support, so I went back to school with the goal of becoming my student’s change agent. In the year of 2000, I earned my Masters Degree in Counseling, School Psychology and Child Welfare and Attendance. I studied all three areas to ensure that I could reach my goal of making a life changing impact on all of the students that I served. I attended CSU Long Beach, CSU Dominguez Hills, and UCLA. My current goal is to continue on to the next educational level and complete my doctorate degree. I spend my free time exercising, doing yoga, and volunteering.
Over the years, working with at-risk students has been challenging as well as very rewarding. The rewarding part is when students become self motivated and began to reach academic and behavioral goals without my assistance. It has been a pleasure working at Carson AMA for the past 2 years and I am looking forward to continuing to make a positive difference in the lives of my students and helping them overcome any obstacles that deter them from their academic success and goal of becoming a lifelong learner. I currently work at the Carson AMA school site every week on Fridays only.
