Ms. Cheatham- LCSW/PSW
My name is Suzanne Cheatham and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the school Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW) who provides social and emotional support for students at Carson Academy of Medical Arts High School. I earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Southern California in Social Work with a concentration in Community Organizing, Planning, and Administration. Prior to earning my Master’s Degree I enjoyed choreographing and teaching dance to youth, using the arts as a tool to encourage creativity and strengthen self-esteem and expression in Brentwood, California. I have experience working with youth in detention camps or on probation, foster youth and their families, and severely mentally ill youth. I am a trained Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (DBT) and have experience with running DBT groups, which is typically used for those with borderline personality disorder, emotion regulation and relationship issues, and/or to address self-harm behaviors. As the school PSW I provide mental health consultation, behavioral intervention, individual/group/family therapy, and collaboration with staff, administrators, parents, and other support providers. It is a privilege and honor to work with school staff and serve the students and families at this school. I am onsite Monday - Friday.
